In case you haven't heard .... James Cameron is back with his new mind-blowing, special effects laden, out of this world, eye popping 3D event AVATAR!
Wow by the way I described that it seems like a really good flick, and that my friends is the point.
Do you remember a film where the hype was everywhere? It was all over the television, radio, it had a spot in the trailer section in almost every single movie. There were cast interviews, behind the scenes clips, and promotional materials everywhere you turned... only to watch the movie and find out it wasn't that good.
The same argument can be said for AVATAR some feel it will be amazing and others feel it will be a box office bomb.
Is all the hype to much? Are people going to be sick of this movie before it opens?
It could be said that bombarding the public will fuel their drive to see the movie. It is a clever tactic but it may have a 50/50 chance of failing because of over stimulation. Will AVATAR succeed in the box office or blow up in our faces?
My opinion is Hollywood is treading on yet another double-edged sword. I think AVATAR will succeed based on Cameron's other works. He delivers a solid picture that keeps the audience engaged. However, seeing promos for it everywhere almost makes me feel tired of seeing it and I feel less compelled to go see it.
Whats your opinion? Is there too much hype these days? Or is it a clever PR tactic that makes us crave for more?

I find that any publicity is good publicity. If there is this much talk about a movie, more people will watch it. The movies that you hear nothing about tend to be movies that do not do well in box office.
ReplyDeleteFor example, look at the Dark Knight. There was so much hype about that movie, and look at how well it did in box office? Given there wasn't so much negative hype like there is about Avatar, but still, my point? Movies with any sort of Hype to better.
I think I said this before, but people are stupid. They are also mindless. Since it's being talked about, people will see it. Even if the hype is good or bad, people like to feel involved, and inorder to be involved, they have to see the movie.
This movie will do well in theatres, there is little doubt in my mind. First of all the director directed a movie that is still at the top of the box office (Titanic). I only mention this becuase, if you have watched some of the trailers like I have, you'll notice that the only movie that pops up as the directors previous films. Everyone knows Titantic is at the top, when they see that, they will think, "Oh, I have to see this becuase Titanic was so good." You don't think so? Remember people are stupid. It's just like how people see movies just because their favorite actor is in it. Or Tim Burton lovers.
Another reason why this movie is going to do well is becuase its been so hidden. It just came out of nowhere recently, and there was little known about it. People want what they can't have.
Call me on it. You're the one still working at the movie theatre. Let me know if I'm right.
